Local bowler Karen Chenney was Orbost’s main representative in the Victorian Open, which was held last weekend at the Traralgon Bowling Club.
Chenney played in four different categories: the mixed pairs, women’s pairs, triples and singles.
The 2025 competition was held in 10 different venues, as far east as Stratford to cater for the large number of Australian and international competitors.
Chenney’s most successful categories were the triples where her team advanced to round two of the finals, and the singles, where from a field of 128 women bowlers, some from overseas, she progressed her way through to be one of the last 32 players.
Unfortunately Chenney lost to Mary Thompson from the USA, 21-11.
SOCIAL BOWLS
Although persistent rain caused the cancellation of the monthly Scroungers competition on Sunday, the club was able to hold a successful social bowls afternoon last Thursday in overcast conditions.
Unlike previous weeks, there was only one team that won both of their games, the winners being Maurice Frank (skip), Ralph Harding and Trevor Hawkey.
The next social bowls afternoon, weather permitting, will be on Thursday (April 3).
Bowlers are to be at the club no later than 12.30pm.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
The date for the next club championships, which will be the mixed pairs has been changed due to members having commitments elsewhere.
The championships will now be played on Sunday, April 27 starting at 10.30am.
Entries can be made by adding your names to the list on the outside noticeboard at the club.
A date has not yet been set for the championship fours.
