The third exhibition for this year at Lemon Hill Gallery in Wairewa is by an East Gippsland artist, Kate Chapman, from Orbost.

It is a collection of strong, beautiful, water colour paintings titled Home Is Where the Heart Is which Kate says, “is an exploration of connection, a sense of place, and ultimately what it is to be at ‘Home'”.

Her role as an artist is relatively recent. Kate’s background is in eco-psychology, community building and the healing arts but it was the COVID-19 lockdown that spurred her to turn her hand to painting and specifically, to water colours.

She writes, “water colour, fluid and untamed, mirrors nature’s rhythms – flowing, shifting, breathing.”

Once Kate started painting her interest quickly grew in the creative process generally and into a love of colour, light and water.

She also found she needed a deep connection to whatever she was painting to sustain the inspiration.

This shows in her work.

Kate has had a few paintings exhibited in two previous exhibitions, but this is her first time going solo.

“This is a powerful, intense, exhibition, with a personal story woven through in both prose and poetry,” Lemon Hill Gallery’s Elizabeth Blakeman said.

The opening will be on Sunday, May 4. All welcome. Please see the public notices section in the classified advertisements for further details.
