It was a lean day for the young Orbost Snowy Rovers, defeated by arch rival Lakes Entrance in both the under 13 and 15 fixtures in round three of the East Gippsland Junior Football Association at the Lakeside Oval last Sunday.
In the under 13s both sides went in full of confidence, having banked maximum points in the opening two rounds.
But it was the Seagulls who came out to play, kicking three unanswered goals in both opening terms as the young Blues gave their all but were continuously denied an illusive goal.
Lakes Entrance led by 37 points at half time, with the second half a more even contest with both sides kicking two goals each, the Seagulls home by five goals.
The margin should probably have been less but for some errant kicking from the young Blues, who shadowed by nine points.
Harlan Smith kicked both goals for Orbost and was named in the best along with Silas Martin, Kayden Smith, Chad Russell and Angus Seal.
The Blues are off to a tough start to the under 15 season, defeated by ladder leader, Lakes Entrance by 50 points.
The impressive young Seagulls kicked 11 unanswered majors in a first half onslaught, which left the young Blues defenders helpless, with the mid field ball movement precise and constant.
The game was evened up in the second half which saw goals to Charlie Joiner, Tojoe Martin and Daniel Martin for the Blues.
Orbost Snowy Rovers will host Paynesville in round four action on Sunday at Lochiel Park, with the under 11s kicking off the Mother’s Day action at 10.30am.
