Orbost Snowy Rovers’ under 13 side have taken the match right up to the unbeaten Wy Yung in round five of the East Gippsland Junior Football Association at Bullumwaal Road last Sunday.
The Tigers got home by a point in a match where the Blues were left to rue missed opportunities in front of goal, kicking two goals and 15 points, from 17 shots at goal, while their more efficient opponent converted four majors, from just eight scoring shots.
Wy Yung could only muster one scoring shot in the first half, a goal, as the Blues dominated play, but only registered the same, the lead at the long break the eight points they accumulated.
The third term was a similar scenario, the Tigers adding another solitary major, while the home side accumulated another five points to go with their goal, the lead widening to 13 points.
Again it was the Tigers ability to convert that got them home in busy final term, kicking two goals from four scoring shots, as the Blues finished with just two points, going down by the narrowest margin in a match they really should have won.
Best players for Orbost were Hugh Scott, Hayley Russell, Chad Rogers, Hunter Findley and Hunter Greaves.
The under 15 game was more clear cut with the Tigers running out 50-point winners, after the
blowing the game apart with a five goal to one opening term.
Tojoe Martin, Jimmy Hardy, Zaid Nordstrom, Jack Scott and Lachlan Robinson were all solid contributors for the Blues.
Orbost Snowy Rovers have the bye this week, with its next match against Lucknow at the Lucknow Recreation Reserve on June 1.
