At Benambra next Tuesday, a Farm Water Discussion will take place with the aim of speaking about managing farm water in difficult seasons.
The topics will include water budgets for now and the future, what other farmers are doing, as well as what your farm water system might look like in 2030.
Options for maximising any rainfall, as well as consolidation and reticulation ideas will also
be covered.
The discussion workshop is through the Farm Business Resilience Program, which is supporting farmers to build stronger, more productive businesses.
Keren Walker of Agriculture Victoria is the contact person, and registrations are encouraged.
The workshop will take place outdoors at 1702 Benambra Road, Benambra, from 10am to 1pm on Tuesday, May 27.
SOILS SYMPOSIUM IN JUNE
A Soils Symposium, showcasing the results of different soil research projects conducted in the wider Gippsland region over the past few years, will run at the Gippsland Ag Centre in June.
People leading the discussions include a familiar face at the Gippsland Research Farm, Peter Ronalds, who is now the Sustainable Agriculture Manager for the Western Port Catchment Landcare Network.
He said some of the research had just been completed while other projects had been conducted over a decade.
“There will be farmers sharing their knowledge and experience around soil management and what happened to productivity and profit when they changed practices,” Mr Ronalds said.

He said the event was supported by the Australian Government through funding from the Climate-Smart Agriculture Program under the Natural Heritage Trust.
The symposium will include the Growing More Topsoil project, which has featured at several Spring Field Days and includes experts like Dr Bill Grant of Federation University, Peter Norwood of Full Circle Nutrition, and local farmers and GAgG members Trevor Caithness and Rick Blackshaw.
Mr Caithness will also speak on soil renovation and bringing rundown soil back to life, while Mr Norwood will talk about the importance of sulphur and trace elements in soils.
The Soil Symposium will take place at the Gippsland Agricultural Centre, near the Bairnsdale Airport, on Wednesday, June 11, from 9am-3pm.
