Orbost’s Far East Eight Ball Association recently hosted the annual Victorian South Eastern Region Country Cup at the Orbost Golf Club.
The golf club that hosts numerous functions all year round, including weddings, birthdays and graduations, was transformed into a massive pool hall for three days of action.
Players from across the Gippsland region, from as far afield as Wonthaggi, made the trek to Orbost in quest for pool room glory.
The event began on the Friday night with a knockout competition, followed by two long days as 20 teams slugged it out in two divisions for the coveted title.
Teams represented Wellington, Traralgon, Mid Gippsland, West Gippsland, Maffra, Bairnsdale, Wonthaggi, Latrobe Valley and Orbost.
Division one of the teams event competition was won by the West Gippsland Warriors, with division
two won by the West Gippsland Rabble.
West Gippsland Warriors’ Sean Partridge was named the player of the tournament and captain of the all star team.
Other players selected were Scott Wilkinson (Wellington 1), Mark Roberts (West Gippsland Warriors), Matt Sayer (Latrobe Valley 1), Steve Reiger (West Gippsland Warriors), Dan McLean (Mid Gippsland 1), Jayson Jorgenson (Maffra 1) and Chris Paulet (Mid Gippsland 1).
The event was great for the local community with 140 players and their families staying in Orbost for
the weekend.
The Far East Eight Ball Association was thankful for all the support and sponsorship it received locally.
Next year’s event will take place in Sale at the Gippsland Regional Sporting Complex.
