Orbost Snowy Rovers maintained its impressive form in 2025 in the East Gippsland Football Netball League thirds competition, easily accounting for Boisdale-Briagolong last Saturday by 28 points at Lochiel Park.
The Blues now have a five win and one loss record, the victory seeing them claim second spot on the ladder, occupying the prized double chance opportunity.
Good kicking for goal in the opening team saw the Blues quickly open up a 15-point advantage at the first break and that is as close as the Bombers got all match.
The dynamic duo up forward, Angus Joiner (five goals) and Kruze Farley (four), always looked dangerous and had too many tricks for the Bomber defenders.
Orbost is getting an even contribution from a variety of players, which makes them hard to beat, even if the high profile stars are shut down by opposition who do their homework.
Both halves were mirror images, with the Blues kicking five goals to two on the way to another impressive team performance.
Among the best players this week were Thomas Macalister, Tye Robinson, Cooper Findley, Dean Tatti, Jet Kane and Jarrah Morrison.
Despite suffering its third consecutive loss, Orbost still sits in fourth place on the ladder in the reserves, four points ahead of Wy Yung and Lindenow.
The unbeaten Bombers made short work of the Blues in the opening term, booting four unanswered goals on the way to an easy 45-point win.
Orbost can take some solace in the fact it was competitive in the final three quarters against the league measuring stick, who only added six goals to the Blues’ four in an encouraging effort with some winnable matches around the corner.
Mitch Fenner kicked three goals for the Blues in an effort which should see him back in contention for senior selection, joined in the better players by Jason Eaton, Curtley Farley, coach Andrew Kenny, Lachlan Osborn and Jamie Welsh.
After a week’s rest for the King’s Birthday weekend holiday, the Blues will do battle with Lakes Entrance on June 14 at the
Lakeside Oval.
The reserves will be chasing a much-needed victory to reconsolidate their hold on fourth spot, while the thirds will do battle with their arch rival who are unbeaten thus far. Victory would see the Blues jump to the top of
the ladder.
