For the third time in four years the Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA) have stocked 10 million fish into Victorian waters to make fishing even better, with a significant local boost.
Bemm River received 5000 dusky flathead and 10,000 estuary perch, while the
Blue Rock Lake was populated with 12,500 Australian bass, 35,000 brown trout and 42,020 rainbow trout.
Cann River saw the influx of 20,000 bass, while Flooding Creek was the recipient of 5000 estuary perch, and the Genoa River getting twice that amount.
The restocking also includes more than four million Murray cod, three million golden perch and more than one and half million trout and salmon.
There were estuarine species in the mix too, with nearly 200,000 estuary perch and dusky flathead released.
Gippsland wasn’t left out of the distribution with numerous sites receiving a variety
of species.
As you’s expect, the Gippsland Lakes got a nice restocking with 47,340 dusky flathead and 43,500 estuary perch, while Lake Glenmaggie didn’t miss out, with 10,000 bass, 2000 brown trout and 25,000 rainbow trout hitting the water.
In Lake Guthridge at Sale the VFA stocked 5000 bass and 800 rainbow trout, with 300 rainbow trout put into the Heyfield’s Racecourse Lake.
Hyland Lake (Churchill) had an influx of 2550 rainbow trout, the Latrobe River 20,000 bass and the Macalister River 10,000 bass.
Narracan Lake was inundated with 10,000 bass, and the Snowy River populated with 20,000 bass and 10,000 estuary perch.
Timbarra River didn’t miss out with 10,000 bass included, while Lake Tyers got 10,000 estuary perch.
