Reigning premier, Orbost Snowy Rovers have caused a major upset in the East Gippsland Football Netball League thirds competition, knocking off the previously unbeaten Lakes Entrance at Lochiel Park in round 15 last Saturday.
It was the Blues’ third straight win, after a mid season slump saw them drop four games in succession, they currently sit third on the ladder, poised for a big finals series.
Orbost has exposed a half dozen of their youngsters to senior football this season and that will hold them in good steed in the coming weeks.
The Blues came ready to play, and set the victory up with a sensational first half, where they kicked six unanswered goals to lead by 35 points at half time.
The Seagulls found their mojo in the second half, kicking six goals to four, but they never threatened victory, Orbost showing it is on target for a big final month of 2025.
Angus Joiner and Kruze Farley both kicked three goals each for the Blues, with Thomas Joiner finishing with two.
Angus Joiner leads the competition goal kicking with 44 goals.
Among the best players for the winners were Andrew Robinson, Beau Hanratty, Thomas Joiner, Linkoln McGregor, the highly skilled Bobby Bills and Callum Harrison.
The reserves match pitted the sixth and seventh best sides against each other, and they enjoyed a competitive game of entertaining football.
After an even first term the Seagulls set the victory up, with a three goal to one second term, opening up a 14-point advantage by half time, the Blues threatened several times but were unable to draw closer than nine points, eventually succumbing at the final siren by 13 points.
Lachlan Osborn, Farley, veteran Luke Borley, coach Andrew Kenny, Mark McDonald and promising youngster Rusty Morrison were named in the best for the Blues, with Kenny and Osborn kicking two goals each.
Orbost will travel to Bullumwaal Road to take on Wy Yung this week.
