For the second time this season, the Orbost Snowy Reserves have lost five consecutive matches, succumbing to Wy Yung in round 16 of the East Gippsland Football Netball League at Bullumwaal Road by 10 points in a low scoring match which lacked highlights.
After winning their first three matches of the season, wins have been hard to come by for the Blues in the second half of the season.
They certainly had their chances on Saturday, but will rue some missed opportunities in front of the posts, not scoring a major until the final term.
Orbost led at the first change by four points, despite not kicking a goal, but they did look the side most likely to capitalise.
After a scoreless second term, it was the Tigers who went in at half time four-point leaders, with the match very much up for grabs.
The third term was another arm wrestle, dominated by stoppages.
Orbost kicked three points to two, narrowing the lead to just three points.
Hugh Barnes kicked Orbost’s first major in the final term, but Ben Powell’s second for Wy Yung sealed the deal for the Tigers, as the Blues were left to lament what might have been.
Among the best for the Blues were Fletcher Morgan, Cody Robertson, Jason Eaton, Hayden Mitchell and Barnes.
Orbost Snowy Rovers will host Paynesville in the final match of the home and away season at Lochiel Park this Saturday.
