It was a tough day for Orbost Snowy Rovers in round 16 of East Gippsland netball, winning just one match against the powerful Wy Yung club at Bullumwaal Road
last Saturday.
The Blues under 15 side led the way, moving from fourth to third on the ladder in
the process.
Orbost was never seriously challenged, victorious 33-20, with Holly Hanratty and Leila Barnes leading the way.
In the under 17s, the Blues and Tigers engaged in a terrific contest, one fitting of the second and fourth sides, with Wy Yung proving just a bit too solid up the stretch, winning 35-31.
Jess Griebenow and Lara Seal had impressive games for Orbost.
As a result of the loss, Orbost dropped to fifth, but will return to the winners list this week when they host Paynesville.
For the Blues to play in the final, top side Lakes Entrance will need to beat Lucknow, which you would think is likely, given the Seagulls have only tasted defeat once for the season but it was to the Magpies, which adds to the spice.
Wy Yung was much too good in the “A” grade match, winning 65-34, with Chelsea Di Cecco and Hannah Macalister battling hard for Orbost.
Despite sitting seventh on the ladder, Orbost was competitive against the second-seeded Tigers in “B” grade, stringing together some solid periods of play, only for Wy Yung to regain its ascendancy, running out comfortable winners in the end, 34-24, with Chloe Shanahan, Narelle Macalister and Tahlia Easton leading the way for the Blues.
The ladder leading Tigers played superbly in “C” grade, restricting the Blues to just nine goals, as they skilfully slotted 74 goals in a polished effort.
Cat Di Cecco and Nakeetah Rogers worked hard but their efforts didn’t pay off on
the scoreboard.
Orbost tried hard in “D” grade, but were outclassed by Wy Yung, 42-13, with Caitlin Schafer, Jasmine Westaway and Megan Sage pleasing the coaching panel with their effort.
It was another big win for Wy Yung in the under 13 fixture, victorious 36-7, with Hayley Russell, Charli Voss and London Austin showing promise.
