A Gippsland stud sale, comprising four Hereford breeders who sell their animals in an online format, has moved to a 6pm timeslot to cater for prospective buyers.
The fifth annual Gippsland Performance Herefords bull and female sale features 19 young Hereford bulls and six young Hereford females, to be sold via AuctionsPlus.
Gary McAinch, of Mundook Herefords, who runs his sale cattle at Sarsfield, said the timeslot change was for buyers.
“We’ve always tried to be a bit innovative, and we agreed to
the 6pm time to cater for the smaller breeders who might be at their jobs during the day,” Mr McAinch said. “Sometimes farmers get caught up at lunchtime and some of the stock agents have sales to be at, so we thought we’d change it up to see how it goes.
“It just means our clients don’t have to break up their day.”
Mr McAinch will offer five Hereford bulls, Lot 7 through to Lot 11, as well as two yearling heifers at the end of the catalogue.
He said all the vendors will open their properties up for bull inspections on Sunday, September 7, from 10am-3pm and also on sale day from 10am.
The Gippsland Performance Hereford breeders aim to sell young Hereford bulls with structural soundness and above-average genetic merit.
The members only offer animals that meet strict selection criteria, including being herdbook registered, sound, fertile DNA tested free of all known adverse genetic conditions and Pestivirus, sire verified and above-average for various BREEDPLAN EBVs.
Last year’s sale offering made
a top of $10,000 twice and a $7333 average with nine of 15 bulls selling, while four of 10 Hereford heifers offered sold for $2000 each.
The sale’s vendors include Mr McAinch’s Poll Herefords, as well as the Walker family’s Charellen Poll Herefords at Pearsondale, the Lack family’s Willack Poll Herefords at Dawson, and the Meikle family’s Tarwin Poll Herefords at Meeniyan.
It will be the first time the Kee family’s Warringa bulls will not be offered.
The fifth annual Gippsland Performance bull and female sale will commence online on Monday, September 8, at 6pm on AuctionsPlus.
