Monash University medical student Meg Walsh has been named the recipient of the 2025 East Gippsland Medical Scholarship, awarded in partnership with the Rural Workforce Agency Victoria (RWAV).
Established to support senior medical students in their speciality year with a commitment to health in the Wellington and East Gippsland Shire, this scholarship recognises Meg’s passion for rural healthcare and her strong connection to the region.
Currently completing her Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine at Monash University, Meg has received the RWAV East Gippsland Medical Scholarship to support her clinical placement in Bairnsdale — an opportunity she is embracing wholeheartedly as she works towards her goal of becoming a rural GP obstetrician.
Raised in Benalla and a long-time visitor to Paynesville, Meg’s ties to East Gippsland run deep. Her experience in the region has shaped her desire to contribute meaningfully to rural health, particularly in communities that reflect her own upbringing.
“I am immensely grateful for this scholarship, and I cannot thank RWAV enough for this extremely generous opportunity,” Meg said.
“This will help me become more immersed in the local community and make the most of my time in the beautiful East Gippsland region. Thank you for investing in my future in rural medicine.”
Professor Shane Bullock, Head of School at Monash Rural Health, extended his congratulations.
“(She is) a deserving recipient. I would also like to extend my sincere appreciation to the Rural Workforce Agency of Victoria for its generous support in helping Meg pursue her aspiration of serving and strengthening rural healthcare,” he said.
