The build-up to the pennant season continues at the Orbost Bowling Club, with social bowls again proving popular, but unfortunately the severe weather put a stop to the popular Drills and Skills session.
There was a good roll up of bowlers on Thursday for an afternoon of social bowls despite the weather being cold, occasionally wet and definitely very windy.
Players partook in two games of eight ends, completed with only a couple of interruptions from rain.
There was only one team who won both their games, with the winners being two of our newer members, Ralph Harding (skip) and Dennis McCann.
Sunday saw round six of the monthly Scroungers competition being held with the usual high turnout for the popular event.
It was good to see all rinks in use for the two games of 12 ends which was played in warm sunny, though blustery conditions.
In a very close contest, the highest point scorers for the round were Margaret Coulton (64), Ross O’Brien (63) and Trevor Hawkey (62).
With only one round left to go in the current competition, Greg Rankin tops the leader board with a score of 284, while Geoffrey Robinson still holds the highest average score of 71.
The next social bowls will be on Thursday, with players to be at the club no later than 12.30pm so that teams can be organised.
DRILLS AND SKILLS
Saturday’s coaching session was unfortunately cancelled, however. Considering these lessons have been held primarily over winter, the club has been very lucky that this has been the only Saturday morning session that needed to be cancelled.
The session will be this Saturday, with the coaching commencing at 10am, although bowlers are welcome to arrive early to have a roll up before the session begins.
