Last Thursday’s social bowls afternoon at the Orbost Bowls had the best attendance of bowlers for a long time, with the large roll up including two visitors to the region, Phil and Di.
Even though the weather was sunny, showers had been predicted so it was decided to play only two games of eight ends of three bowl triples.
However, even with this shortened playing time, the second game had to be abandoned due to a strong squall of wind and rain, which had the bowlers retiring to the club house.
The winning triple for the afternoon was Scott Farnell (skip), Beryl Dyce and Di Ashton.
Sunday’s social bowls afternoon was a repetition of Thursday’s with regard to attendance and weather, although the drizzle, during the second game, was not sufficient to drive the bowlers into the club house this time.
The format for the afternoon was three games of six ends and was hotly contested with very close results by the end of the third game, with four teams all claiming two wins each.
Finishing in third place were Bruce Kneebone (skip), Ashton and Dyce tied with Ron Hatcher (skip), Lyn O’Brien, Farnell and Jan Lynn on 30 points each.
Greg Rankin (skip), Gwen Hatcher, Rob Black and Jurgen Fichtner came in second with a score of 31, while first place was awarded to Geoff Lynn (skip), Vanessa Frank and Trevor Hawkey on 32.
The next social bowls day will be on Thursday with bowlers requested to be at the club no later than 12.30pm.
DRILLS & SKILLS
With the Pennant season only a month away, with the midweek competition starting on the October 14, Saturday’s Drills and Skills session was again well attended with Geoff Lynn filling in as coach due to Hatcher being unavailable due to other commitments.
Drills and Skills will continue each Saturday morning at 10am until weekend pennant begins on Saturday October 18.
