A Mundook stud Hereford bull has sold for $12,000 to New South Wales stud, Yavenvale at Adelong.
The sale was made during the fifth annual Gippsland Performance bull and female sale, where four Hereford stud breeders within Gippsland sold their animals on AuctionsPlus.
“I’m very pleased that one of my bulls has gone to Yavenvale,” Mundook stud principal, Mr McAinch said.
“He has extraordinarily well-balanced figures, he has good growth, ease of calving and exceptional carcase figures, as well as being very high within the breed for the sustainable index.”
Mr McAinch runs his stud bulls at Sarsfield, and sold two of the five he offered, and has since had interest in the remaining sale cattle, particularly the heifers.
“Overall, the Gippsland Performance breeders as a group were a bit disappointed with the sale results, but at Mundook we’re happy,” he said.
The sale comprised 19 young Hereford bulls and six young Hereford females, with just four bulls selling during the online auction, at $6000, $9500 and the $12,000 top, and three heifers at $2500 each.
The Gippsland Performance Hereford breeders aim to sell young Hereford bulls with structural soundness and above-average genetic merit.
Last year’s sale offering made a top of $10,000 twice and a $7333 average with nine of 15 bulls selling, while four of 10 Hereford heifers offered sold for $2000 each.
The sale’s vendors include Mr McAinch’s Poll Herefords, as well as the Walker family’s Charellen Poll Herefords at Pearsondale, the Lack family’s Willack Poll Herefords at Dawson, and the Meikle family’s Tarwin Poll Herefords at Meeniyan.
Mr McAinch said the group may potentially change next year’s sale date, shuffling it by a few weeks, as the vendors have plans to travel to Ireland to the European Hereford Conference in August.
