AFL Grand Final weekend is set to bring something different to Orbost, as the Orbost Club Hotel — better known as the Bottom Pub — hosts the launch of Schooners and Skirmish.
On Sunday, September 28 from 1pm to 4pm, the pub will be transformed into a live-action laser tag arena.
Developed by Skirmish Laser Tag, a newly launched business based in Lakes Entrance, in partnership with IronHorn Events, Schooners and Skirmish combines two things’ Aussies love — a good laugh over drinks and a bit of friendly competition — in a high-energy afternoon of fun.
Teams will battle it out in games like Death Match, Domination and Capture the Flag, while solo and age-bracket free-for-alls keep the action rolling. Novelty awards such as Best Dressed and Crowd Favourite mean even the not-so-sharp shooters can walk away a winner.
Dave, owner of Skirmish Laser Tag, said the event was about offering something fresh for local communities.
“We wanted to take laser tag out of the traditional setting and bring it somewhere social, where people already gather,” he said.
“It’s about mates enjoying a laugh, a drink, and a bit of healthy competition — it’s entertainment that’s as much fun for the players as it is for the crowd watching on.”
The event also gives pubs the chance to highlight, and support causes close to their hearts.
Patrons are invited to make a gold coin donation to participate, with proceeds from the Orbost launch going to BrAshA-T, which funds research into Ataxia-Telangiectasia (A-T). The Bottom Pub will be supporting Jarrah’s Journey, after two-year-old Jarrah was recently diagnosed with the condition.
Adding to the atmosphere, the Bottom Pub will run a $7 Carlton Mid schooner special throughout the afternoon, ensuring there’s just as much fun off the field as there is on it.
The Orbost launch is the first of eight Schooners and Skirmish events planned across East Gippsland and Wellington. Registration will be available on the day, and players of all ages are welcome.
