October 13 is closing in quickly and Orbost residents are being urged to make the
final additions to their Samaritan’s Purse, Operation Christmas Child project shoe boxes and return them to either the Snowy River Mail office or to organiser, Vivienne Hughes.
In 2023, the community managed to pack 75 boxes into a van that was destined to bring joy to underprivileged children worldwide by delivering shoeboxes filled with essential and fun items as part of
the wider 218,215 boxes that were distributed to countries such as Cambodia, Ukraine, the Philippines, Fiji and Papua New Guinea.
Orbost’s organiser, Vivienne Hughes, is excited to see the project continue in town and has already began to receive many of the boxes back in preparation to send them off however, she is aware that there are some still out in the community that are yet to be returned.
For those interested in packing a shoebox, gift ideas include toys, toothbrushes, school supplies and clothing.
Since 1993, more 232 million children in more than 170 countries and territories have received an Operation Christmas Child shoebox.
