The Orbost Arts Centre is set to celebrate the rich artistic tapestry of the region with its upcoming exhibition, Far East Amalgam, running from October 1 to 28.

The showcase will feature the diverse works of seven talented artists hailing from the far eastern corners of Gippsland, including communities such as Bonang, Goongerah, Tamboon, Lakes Entrance, and W Tree.

The community is invited to a special opening night on Friday, October 3, at 6pm, with doors opening at 5.30pm.

Guests can expect a warm and welcoming atmosphere complete with the arts centre’s signature spread of dips, cheeses, and a selection of locally sourced wines and beers.

Far East Amalgam promises an eclectic and vibrant blend of styles, perspectives and stories, reflecting the unique landscapes and communities that inspire the artists.

The exhibition truly lives up to its name, presenting a diverse mix of mediums and subjects.

The featured artists include:

– Jamie Antonio: Known for quirky, cartoon-style portraits of local personalities. Jamie will also be offering custom portraits during the exhibition.

– Leanne Edwards: Presenting a stunning fusion of indigenous paintings, prints, and handcrafted woodwork that reflects deep cultural heritage.

– Greg Tantrum: Showcasing detailed sketches of iconic local landmarks, including the beloved Slab Hut.

– Josh Willoughby: Displaying unique stencil artworks inspired by the diverse flora of East Gippsland.

– Elfie Schieran: Capturing vivid depictions of local wildlife, from colourful cockatoos to owls nestled in ancient forest trees.

– Kathryn McDonald: Exhibiting serene and evocative farm and landscape scenes from East Gippsland’s foothills.

– Scotty Bayliss: Featuring intricate pencil illustrations that explore animal anatomy, botanical subjects and the fine details of the natural world.

Described as a celebration of contrast, creativity and community, the exhibition promises something for every eye and heart.

It is a fantastic opportunity to experience

the art, stories and landscapes that define Far East Gippsland – from the high country to the sea.

Orbost Arts Centre will unveil its latest exhibition, Far East Amalgam, on October 1. There will be an official opening night on Friday, October 3. The exhibition will feature six artists, including Jamie Antonio, who is known for creating cartoon-style portraits. (PS)
