Orbost was humbled by a well drilled Bruthen team last Saturday in round one of the Bairnsdale Cricket Association "B" grade competition at the Bruthen Recreation Reserve.

It was a tough start for Orbost in round one of the Bairnsdale Cricket Association “B” grade competition, humbled by a well drilled Bruthen team at the Bruthen Recreation Reserve last Saturday.

Batting first the Redbacks amassed an imposing 2/292 from its allocated 40 overs, highlighted by a sensational 155 from Will Matthews, who combined with Rhys Kennedy (83) for an opening partnership of 222.

In reply, Orbost batted gallantly for 32 overs, bowled out for 103, with captain Fletcher Morgan top scoring with 23.

Sean Nippress (16), Lucas Shanahan (14), and Mitchell Farley (13) all showed some form and look more than capable of building on their initial effort.

This week, the Blues will host Wy Yung at the Orbost Community College.

The Bruthen/Orbost under 16 team played its first match of the season on Saturday at Bruthen, batting first they were restricted to 6/62 from their 25 overs

against a good Paynesville outfit, who knocked the runs off in eight over, without losing a wicket.

This week the under 16 team will play Lucknow on Saturday morning at Hudson Alvin Oval.

It was a better result in the under 13s, with Orbost victorious over Meerlieu at the Bairnsdale Primary School.

The Tussocks made 5/85 from its 20 over stint, the Blues chasing it down in the final over for the loss of just three wickets in a thrilling finish.

On Friday night, Orbost will welcome Metung Swan Reach to Orbost Community College.
