Remarkably, Orbost defeated St Mary’s Nagle in their “A” grade Bairnsdale Cricket Association (BCA) round three one day fixture in less than two hours at the Orbost Recreation Reserve last Saturday.
The Blues are the only unbeaten team after three rounds, comfortably sitting on top of the ladder and looking one of the sides to beat in 2025/26.
In contrast it took Orbost seven rounds to break through for its first victory last season, but with some exciting recruits and
renewed enthusiasm, the Blues are setting themselves up for a crack at another premiership.
Nagle won the toss and elected to bat on another Orbost belter and were bundled out for just 61 in the 16th over.
Brayden McCarrey again looked dangerous at the top of the order, making 22 from 17 balls, before falling to Nick Davis who had a day out, taking 5/29.
Skipper Ricky Tatnell (10) and Michael Hack (10) were the only other players to reach double figures, as many of their players had limited confidence.
Davis got great support from Luke Humphries (2/19), Alfie Lindsay (2/8) and Joshua Court (1/0).
With a quality day of racing from Caulfield and Randwick to watch on television, the Blues wasted little time in knocking off the total, just seven overs, without losing a wicket.
Jayden Price (26) and Humphries (29) both hit five boundaries in impressive cameos.
The Blues will host arch rival, Lakes Entrance this week in an exciting local derby, with both sides showing good form early in the season.
The Seagulls currently sit in third place on the ladder, with two wins from three matches, with their 2025/26 imports, Ollie Chaplin and Scott Tite also making an impression early.
They have also got two significant match turning innings from veteran, Ryan Hooper, who is working his way back in his pre-COVID form.
Both sides will go in full of confidence, Lakes Entrance knocking off last year’s two-day premier, Lindenow
South Glenaladale at its Glenaladale fortress.
