Two local mates are preparing for an unthinkable adventure across Australia, showcasing the spirit of camaraderie and fundraising.
Simsy from Lindenow’s Simsy’s Tyers and co-driver Myles Nicholas from Bairnsdale’s Great Alpine Flowers dropped into Echo Bend Camping Park recently — one of many sponsors — to say hello, show off their rally car and test their “Shit Box” on the way
to Dargo.
The pair, racing under the team name The FINCLS, will take part in the Spring Shitbox Rally 2025, a seven-day challenge from Alice Springs to the Gold Coast alongside 500 other participants. The rally is not a race, but a test of endurance and determination, taking
participants along some of Australia’s most remote and challenging roads.
This year, the rally aims to raise $2 million for Cancer Council, funding vital cancer research projects nationally. Since its inception in 2009, the Shitbox Rally has raised more than $50 million, making it the largest individual fundraiser for the Cancer Council in Australia.
To join the rally, teams must first raise a minimum of $5000, and Simsy and Myles thanked the community for its generous support through sponsorships.
The pair face both a physically and mechanically demanding week on the road, but organisers say the experience will be as rewarding as it is challenging. Locals are encouraged to visit Echo Bend Camping Park to meet the team on their return and hear all about their incredible journey.
