Despite wet conditions in the lead up to the Mallacoota Skate Park Competition last Saturday, the event went ahead with plenty of energy and excitement.
East Gippsland Shire Council’s organising team had the squeegee and blowers out to get as much of
the wetness off as possible and keep the park in top condition, ensuring the competition could take place safely.
The event, held for the second time in Mallacoota with the first being during the opening of the redesigned facility in 2023, drew more than 100 local children, with participants of all ages and skill levels taking part in skateboarding and BMX competitions.
Learn-to-skate sessions gave newcomers the chance to try out the park, while spectators enjoyed music, food, and a lively, family-friendly atmosphere.
East Gippsland Shire Council mayor, Cr John White, said the event is a fantastic opportunity to bring the community together and celebrate the region’s active lifestyle while making the most of the multi-use skate and family space.
“We worked closely with the community to redesign the Mallacoota Skate Park as a vibrant, inclusive space – and it’s great to see it thriving just as intended: a place to play, teach, learn and connect,” he said.
“The Mallacoota Skate Park Competition is a wonderful example of how we can positively promote the use of our assets through partnering with grassroots initiatives like Skate Park Leagues.”
