Ben Cruachan Walking Club (BCWC) has been going out bush for the past 60 years, undertaking a variety of walks, from extended to leisurely strolls, with the activities of the last month or so illustrating the diversity that embodies the club.
A stroll around Sale and the Flooding Creek Reserve was well attended, as was a fantastic hike through Mullungdung State Forest where hikers heard the tale of the notorious kidnapper who held hostages in the bush.
That evening, for those who camped on, it was an opportunity to look for Gliders and other nocturnal wildlife.
The regular club social night was held in Bairnsdale, with Peter McHugh sharing the history of Moscow Villa in Bentley Plain and of Bill Ah Chow.
This was preceded by a brief presentation for an upcoming walk in South Australia, along the Wild South Coast Way.
Bushwalking Victoria’s Try Bushwalking calendar included a ramble to the Den of Nargun and afternoon tea at Echo Bend.
A perennial favourite, Wilsons Promontory National Park was the destination for a two-night hike, including a stop at the lighthouse.
Then, in early October a number of club members joined in the Combined Clubs Walk at Wirilda Walking Track, while other members joined in the festivities at Wollangara Outdoor Education Centre Open Day.
The McMillans Walking Track end-to-end
will be in early December, with BCWC
having a long association with this 200+ km Alpine route.
The hike is supported, with hikers enjoying the experience while bearing only day packs.
The calendar is packed with outdoor adventures for the rest of the year, and there is a combined clubs activity on November 16 hosted by West Gippsland Bushwalking Club.
For those considering getting out and about, and would like to join in a walk, the website has all the information.
