St Joseph’s Primary School in Orbost has proudly unveiled a new Dove in Flight sculpture, created by local artist Madelaine Last in partnership with St Colman’s Parish, who generously funded the project in memory of Margaret Raw.
The elegant dove, positioned at the entrance to the school, holds deep significance for the St Joseph’s community.
This year, Catholic Education’s theme is Pilgrims of Hope, and the dove stands as a powerful symbol of peace, renewal, and the shared journey of faith and learning.
Principal Kirsten Daly said the sculpture is far more than an artwork — it reflects the school’s commitment to nurturing the whole child.
“Just as the dove rises, we want our students to grow with confidence, compassion, and curiosity,” she said.
“The Dove In Flight reminds us that every child has their own light to shine. Our role as educators is to guide, support, and empower them to become strong learners ready to embrace the future”.
The school expressed its deep gratitude to St Colman’s Parish for their support and to artist
Madelaine Last for bringing the vision to life.
The sculpture honours the memory of Margaret Raw, whose love of community and faith continues to inspire.
The Dove in Flight will serve as a daily reminder to students, staff, and families of the hope they carry into their learning, relationships and their shared mission as a Catholic school.
