There was disappointment for Orbost in Gippsland Bowls Region division two midweek pennant, losing their away match to Bairnsdale, 63-52.
Maurice Frank’s team of Ron Hatcher, Bruce Kneebone and Beryl Dyce performed best on the day, drawing their rink (20-20), while the other two teams lost 23-20 and 20-12.
Despite the loss, Orbost remains fourth, within striking range.
It was a better result in weekend pennant, with victories for both division one and four.
Division one defeated Howitt Park 65-47, in an impressive clean sweep, with Hayden Lancaster, Geoff Robinson, Maurice Frank and Bruce Kneebone leading the way winning 24-15,
Geoff Lynn, Scott Farnell, Robyn Kellow, Karen Chenney (21-19) and Susan Robinson, Ross O’Brien, Gwen and Ron Hatcher (20-13) joined in the party.
The victory maintains the Green Machine’s hold on third place on the ladder, with an away match against Bairnsdale 2 scheduled for this week.
With all three teams winning, Division 1 again scooped up all 14 match points to retain their third position on their ladder.
Their next game will an away game against Bairnsdale 2.
Division four moved to the top of the ladder, with the maximum match points win over Bairnsdale Golf 3, 54-43.
Jenny Gurney, Trevor Hawkey, Jan Lynn and Lorraine Hawkey had the best win 27-11, with Lyn O’Brien, Jurgen Fichtner, Ralph Harding and Trevor Perry winning a high scoring match 26-23.
Their next game will be at the Bairnsdale Bowling Club against Bairnsdale 7, who are in form after scoring a surprise win against Bairnsdale 8 over the weekend.
CLUB SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIPS
Most of the knockout rounds for the club’s men’s and ladies singles champion were held last Thursday.
Only two of the men’s matches remain and these will be played on Thursday starting at 9.45am.
These matches will be Lancaster and Kneebone, as well as Ron Hatcher and Geoff Lynn.
The grand final matches for both the men’s and ladies will be played in the afternoon.
The ladies finale will be between Jan Lynn and Beryl Dyce who made their way successfully through the knockout rounds.
CRACKERJACK COMES TO ORBOST
A Crackerjack lawn bowls twilight competition for teams of tradies and traders will begin on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 and run for six weeks followed by the finals.
Each team should consist of three players with a maximum of 14 teams.
It doesn’t matter if you’ve never played before as there will be club members there to give you a helping hand.
You can wear flat soled shoes, thongs or bare feet and can bring your own bowls or take a chance with the club bowls.
The games will start a 6pm although the club will be open earlier.
The club bar will be open for refreshments at our low bar prices (no BYO), with sausages in bread available.
