Record-breaking sale sets new benchmark

The top selling cow with buyers, agents and vendors at the Defining a Decade Sale for Lightning Ridge Genetics at Glengarry recently. (PS)

A new Australian All Breeds record for a

dairy cow two years old and over was set at the Defining a Decade Sale for Lightning Ridge Genetics of Declan Patten held on farm at Glengarry recently.

The top lot was the current All Australian winning three-year-old View Fort Jagger Satin, VG 88 completing 14 generations of EX & VG, the four-year-old sold close to calving and presented in tremendous order for $54,000, purchased by a syndicate of Brindabella Holsteins and Tomargo Holsteins and associates.

The next top top price of $35,000 was for Lightning Ridge WSMR CMD Avenger Baz (Imp.ET), the four month old calf sold to John Tarpey of Ireland and is from Jacobs Lambda Baz, EX 92, who sold earlier this year in the USA for $320,000.

The same buyer also purchased Lightning Ridge CMD Jagger Baby, a classy April born heifer from the same maternal line for $18,000.

The 2025 Sydney Royal World Conference Champion Rivendell Gentry Toffee, EX 92 completing six generations of EX sold for next best price of $25,000 to the Syndicate of T & L Smethurst, C Trimby and V Mathews.

Her four month old Victorious calf sold at $14,000 to Goode Farming of Poowong.

The very correct show winning heifer Lightning Ridge MB Victorious Eloise (Imp.ET) a daughter of former WDE and All American Grand Champion Rivendale VIP Eloise, EX 94 sold for $17,000 to Kings Veldt Genetics of Glen Alvie.

The buyers also purchased the one guernsey in the sale, Kalaso LR Missile Jazzy a grand daughter of the WDE Grand Champion Springhill Mentor Jazzy, EX 95 for $10,000.

Lawwal Holsteins from New Zealand were at the sale and selected the exceptional

July born heifer Lightning Ridge Alpha Apple

2-Red backed by nine generations of EX dams for $18,000.

Brad Salmon of Bungador paid $15,000 for Lightning Ridge WSMR Hulu Shakira-Red

(Imp.ET) a seven month grand daughter of Shakira, EX 97.

Other noted sales included Westmuir LR Maximum Adler-Red, Lightning Ridge Analyst

Siren-Red , Lightning Ridge MB Alpha Licorice-RC and Lightning Ridge CMD Jagger Babe all for $12,000 each.

Lightning Ridge Lambda Splendour (Imp.ET), Lightning Ridge FD Avalanche Katrysha, EX 90 and Lightning Ridge MB Dropbox Curly (Imp.ET) all for $11,000 each.

While holstein’s Lightning Ridge Maximum Apple-Red and Windy Vale Unstopabull

Angel-Red, VG 88 both sold for $10,000 and the jersey’s Wanstead FCG Jordan Fernleaf and Brookbora PGRS Chrome Lovelies, EX 91 also made $10,000 each.

Dairy Livestock Services reported that 10 jerseys averaged $12,550 and 43 holsteins averaged $9209.

The guernsey made $10,000 and two embryo packages averaged $5000.

In total 56 lots gross $541,500, and averaged $9670, under the dulcet tones of Brian

Leslie OAM.

Buyers were from all parts of Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia and Tasmania along with buyers from the UK, Ireland and New Zealand.
