East Gippsland Art Gallery is excited to be launching SkillUp: Youth Arts, a new visual arts education program designed to give young people the support, skills, and encouragement they need to thrive.
Open to young people aged 15 to 23, this pilot program will begin in 2026 and will run over six months with weekly workshops delivered during school terms.
Each session focuses on developing practical art-making skills across a range of mediums (drawing, painting, sculpture, digital imaging, illustration, metal, and ceramics)
Students will receive personalised mentoring from professional artists in small groups, fostering creative thinking and experimentation.
Thanks to the Gippsland Community Foundation, SkillUp: Youth Arts is completely free of charge.
Removing financial barriers ensures all young people – regardless of background or circumstance – can access high-quality arts education.
“We are incredibly excited about this program,” gallery director Crystal Stubbs said.
“We’ve been connecting with youth and secondary schools to ensure this program meets local needs and supports meaningful arts pathways.
“Our vision is to build a vibrant and supportive creative community where young people feel seen, valued, and inspired.”
The gallery is taking expressions of interest from young creatives who would like to take part in the SkillUp: Youth Arts Program.
