Cobains trainer Rebecca Kelly continued her pillaging of New South Wales race meetings with a hit and run mission to Cooma last Saturday.
Buoyed by recent success at the Sapphire Coast, Kelly set recent Healesville placegetter, Tussock, for the benchmark 50 event over the 1880 metres.
Cooma races once a
year and has been
racing since 1855.
Starting a warm $2 favourite, Tussock with Deep Shanker in the saddle, bobbed to beat Single Crown ($2.30) and Release the Spirit ($3.80).
It wasn’t surprising to see Tussock pocket the $6400 for connections given in his last two starts. He has run
second to stablemate, Hard To Go Wrong, who was again successful at his next start, and Bookman, who won by 12 lengths at Stony
Creek last Sunday.
It was Kelly’s fourth winner from her last 11 starters, and Tussock’s third win from 15 starts and first at a professional meeting having been victorious prior at the Balnarring and Swifts Creek picnics.
