Sale Maffra Cricket Association defeated the Bairnsdale Cricket Association (BCA) in a Gippsland Cricket League under 18 fixture at Bundalaguah Oval.
BCA captain Ollie Simpson won the toss and elected to bat, but his side was dismissed for 126 in the 39th over. Mitchell Johnson was the top scorer with 47, while opener Albie Clarke contributed a solid 23. Ayrton Corben added valuable runs late in the innings, scoring 19, including a six.
William Braden was the standout with the ball for Sale Maffra, taking 3/16. He was well supported by Monty Mayman and Shevan Fernando, who both finished with 2/16.
Sale Maffra were under early pressure at 4/30 after Johnson claimed 3/24, but captain Blake Rowley (54) and vice captain Thomas Young (33) steadied the innings. The pair shared an unbroken 97-run partnership to guide Sale Maffra to a comfortable victory in the 37th over.
The BCA’s next match will be in the Cameron White Cup against Leongatha and Warragul on Sunday, January 18.
There was no play for the BCA under 15s in the scheduled match against Sale Maffra at Wurruk Cricket Ground due to wet weather. Their next fixture will be on Sunday, January 18, at Hudson-Alvin Oval against the Warragul and District Cricket Association.
The BCA under 13 team, currently sitting third on the ladder, will also be in action that day, taking on ladder leaders Warragul and District Cricket Association
at Lucknow Recreation Reserve.
The first round of the women’s Gippsland Cricket League season will be played on January 18, with Bairnsdale travelling to face Cricket Latrobe Valley.
