It was a wild, wet and eventful night at Sale with some weather problems which delayed the first race 45 minutes before greyhounds could hit the track with the heavy rain and thunderstorms passing on.
The feature event on the 12-race card was the time-honoured Valda Clavarino Memorial over the Sale Cup distance of 640m, which was taken out by Paw
Ike ($2.60) in the time of
36.72 seconds.
Paw Ike hasd raced twice at Sale in the past fortnight and finished second both runs behind superstar Tim Zoo, with both dogs having their eyes set for the Cup.
Metung-trained Lamia Taya ($10.70), for the Whelan Kennel, ran second, giving a great sight out in front.
It was luckless night for Team Whelan who had three runners with all three running second.
In the fast class race on the program, last month’s Melbourne Cup runner, Intrepidus (42.30), strutted his stuff from box six, and after being slow to start
soon found the front, winning by more than five lengths, in the fastest time of the night, 24.41.
Training honours were shared between Mark Delbridge (Balliang), Doctors Kennels (Giffard West) and Robert Pallotta (Ripplebrook), all getting doubles.
Delbridge won with Paw Ike and Paw Monet ($4.80), while Dr. Emila ($12.40) and Dr. Buck ($4.00) were successful for the McMahons.
Pallotta won with Intepidus and Tornado Tessa ($3.30).
