Federal Labor Senator for Victoria, Senator Raff Ciccone, has welcomed news projects will be delivered in the Gippsland region, thanks to over $8.28 million in Commonwealth funding through Round Three of the Albanese Labor Government’s flagship Disaster Ready Fund.
The projects are among 96 being delivered across Australia – combined with contributions from states, territories and other partners – to help local communities become more resilient to increasingly frequent and intense severe weather events.
The local projects to receive Commonwealth funding in Gippsland include:
– $2,149,300 for the Bogong High Plains Road Landslip Prevention Project (Gippsland and Indi).
The project will upgrade the Bogong High Plains Road to enable water to traverse underneath to address the risk of a repeated road landslip or closure.
Total project cost: $4,299,549 (with $2,150,249 co-contribution).
“Investing in disaster preparedness is a long-term investment in safety and resilience for residents and community groups in Gippsland,” Senator Ciccone said.
“The Albanese Government’s $200 million investment through Round Three of the Disaster Ready Fund ensures that local communities, like those in Gippsland, have the resources they need to plan, prepare and respond to disasters.”
Round Three of the Disaster Ready Fund is providing $200 million to projects across the nation to help make Australia more resilient to natural hazards.
