The Thurra River Campground in Croajingolong National Park has reopened, almost six years after it was affected in the Black Summer Bushfires.
However, some parts of the campground are still inaccessible due to ongoing restoration work.
Parks Victoria’s Cann River and Bendoc Ranger teams put in a huge effort to reopen the fire-affected campground.
Thanks to significant restoration efforts made possible by the reopening of Thurra Bridge earlier this year, more than 20 campsites are now open for bookings over the summer holidays.
Temporary toilets are in use and barbecue facilities are unavailable until permanent toilet facilities, fire pits and onsite barbecues are reinstated.
The campground will close on February 2, 2026 for completion of renewal works in time to reopen for Easter.
While there’s still work to be done, this achievement reflects months of hard work – clearing vegetation and waste, mowing, mulching, and removing hazardous trees – all to create a safe and enjoyable experience for campers this summer.
Parks Victoria thanked everyone involved, including its teams from Cape Conran, Orbost, Bairnsdale, Mallacoota, and Capital Projects, for their dedication and teamwork in restoring this iconic destination for the festive season and beyond.
Bookings can be made online on the Parks Victoria website at: Thurra River Campground.
The Thurra River Campground is now open to campers with bookings and visitors until February 1, 2026.
