All eyes will be centred on the Marlo Foreshore on Saturday, January 10, with the annual Orbost Snowy Rovers Football Netball Club and Riviera Triathlon Club’s Marlo triathlon taking centre stage.
The event was established in 1992, held where the Snowy River meets the sea in one of Victoria’s best-kept secrets.
The race has been a constant on the local summer activities calendar most years, with only bushfires and COVID in recent times preventing the staging of the event which is popular with locals and tourists.
This year’s race offers something for everyone with kids, first timers and teams all catered for on a busy schedule.
Once again, the Marlo race is a twilight event, with the kids race (under seven and under 12) kicking off at 2pm, fun triathlon race for novices and juniors commencing at 3pm and the main race at 4pm.
The transition area will once again be the grounds of the Marlo hotel, a vibrant coastal community, with registrations open from 12pm on the hotel lawn, with opportunities for teams and individuals.
The main race consists of a 500 metre swim, 21km bike ride and 5.5km run, while the fun tri cycle course is two laps of the Marlo township and the run course is one lap.
Both events can be done as individuals or in teams.
The fun tri, which is over the shorter course, has become increasingly popular over the past few years with both juniors and adults just starting off in triathlons.
Local trophies are awarded to the first athletes over the line with a 3888 postcode.
