THUMBS UP: To the Bairnsdale posties and delivery drivers. You have been working tireless hours to ensure our Christmas parcels arrived on time, often dealing with crazy traffic and loose dogs. We appreciate the hustle!
THUMBS DOWN: To people who leave
their dogs in hot cars while they shop. It’s getting warmer — leave your pets at home where it’s safe.
THUMBS UP: To the two police officers
circling the Lakes Entrance Recreation Reserve last Saturday night who stopped to kick a
football for a couple of minutes with a young family. Although their kicking left a lot to be desired, I’m sure the family got a few laughs
and smiles from the experience.
THUMBS UP: To the new cookie shop on Service Street in Bairnsdale. It’s great to see a local family having a go and succeeding so quickly. The cookies are delicious, but you have to get in quick.
THUMBS DOWN: To the people using
mobile phones at the Bairnsdale library. Go outside to use your phone.
THUMBS UP: To the Aussie Hay Runners’ convoy of trucks passing through Bairnsdale last Friday carrying huge loads of hay for farmers in need. A truly impressive sight, and an inspirational initiative.
THUMBS UP: To the volunteers who’ve been keeping our local walking tracks and bush trails clear after recent windy weather. Your efforts make it easier for everyone to enjoy East Gippsland’s beautiful outdoors.
THUMBS DOWN: To drivers who keep ignoring the 40km/h school zones in the mornings and afternoons. Slowing down for a few minutes could save a life.
THUMBS UP: To the nurses in the emergency department at Bairnsdale hospital. Despite how incredibly busy it has been lately, they continue to show up, work tirelessly and provide outstanding care with professionalism and compassion.
THUMBS UP: To the volunteers who braved the chilly mornings to set up the farmers’ market. Your effort brings the community together and keeps local produce thriving.
THUMBS UP: To Bairnsdale Lotto Store for their ANZAC display in Bailey Street in the window. Fitting that this is the 110th anniversary of the landing at Gallipoli.
THUMBS DOWN: To the dog owners that
feel they are doing the right thing by picking up their dogs poo and throwing the poo bag on the ground, not bothering to put it into a rubbish bin.
THUMBS UP: To Bairnsdale Rods and Repairs. I broke my fishing rod on a Friday and by Sunday I had it back looking new. Highly recommended.
THUMBS UP: To all the people taking part in the Bairnsdale Football Netball Club’s BIG Freeze this Saturday, and all the people contributing to the fundraising FightMND cause. More than $50,000 already and more to come, a giant effort from some great people in our community.
THUMBS DOWN: The antisocial behaviour in our community is getting out of hand, as evidence from last week’s stabbing would suggest. We deserve to be safe in our streets, not waling in fear. But THUMBS UP: To Woolworths for employing security guards in Bairnsdale.
