Gippsland Bowls Region midweek pennant will resume next week, with a huge match for the Orbost Bowling Club.
The Green Machine’s division two side will play next Tuesday at home against Lakes Entrance 3.
The outfit currently sits fifth on the ladder, but needs to manoeuvre their way into the top four in the next month, to partake in finals action.
Weekend pennant will resume on January 17, with division one playing away at Howitt Park, while division four will be at home against Bairnsdale 8.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
The men’s and ladies’ championship pairs will be held on Thursday, January 22 commencing with a roll-up at 9.45am.
All details are on the outside noticeboard at the club and entries can be made by adding your name to the attached list.
NEW YEAR’S DAY BAREFOOT
The annual New Year’s Day Barefoot event was held in perfect weather and was very well attended by locals and visitors.
Such was the success of the event that it even proved necessary to send out for extra sausages for the lunchtime sausage sizzle.
With bowlers and would-be bowlers of all ages very active on the green, it was interesting to see the variety of styles.
The club would like to thank all those who attended and wish everybody in the Orbost community a very happy, safe and prosperous New Year.
SOCIAL BOWLS
Considering the time of year and the overcast slightly humid conditions, there was a good number of bowlers at last Sunday’s social bowls afternoon.
The numbers were boosted by the return of Steve and Narelle Shorten, two new bowlers who attended the New Year’s Day Barefoot event.
The match committee arranged two games of eight ends, with only one team winning both of their games.
Victory on the day went to Ralph Harding (skip), Trevor Hawkey and Annette Grmusa.
The next afternoon of social bowls will be on Thursday, players to be at the club before 12.30pm.
CRACKERJACK COMING TO ORBOST
Twilight Crackerjack is commencing on Wednesday, February 4 and will run for six weeks.
Only three people are required to make up a team, and you can use your own bowls, or the club can loan you a set.
Footwear should be flat soles or thongs.
