The Orbost Rotary Club, who has been serving the local community since 1947, is looking for new members.
In the early days some of its service projects included Orbost Swimming Pool, Scout Hall, establishing Croajingalong Village and Lochiel House at Orbost Hospital.
For many years they ran the most courteous shop assistant award and mock job interviews for the secondary college.
These days they take popcorn, fairy floss, snow cones to local school fetes, run barbecues for events where asked.
They are a primary event organiser of the Orbost Christmas Eve festival and also organises and runs Australia Day breakfast and awards, wood raffles
over the winter months and a Christmas raffle at year’s end.
Of the funds raised,
90 per cent raised go
back into local schools, kindergartens, the community, and some international projects.
They help with local bushfire and flood recovery when asked.
Unfortunately current members are getting older, and they are finding it difficult to find younger more able bodies people to replace them.
Orbost Rotary is facing almost certain closure by ageing if they are unable to arrest the decline.
