Finals prospect, West Bairnsdale outclassed Orbost at the Bairnsdale City Oval in their Bairnsdale Cricket Association “B” clash.
West currently sit fourth on ladder, while the Blues languish in 12th, with a solitary victory for the season over Lakes Entrance.
The home side won the toss and elected to bat, a decision vindicated when they finished their 40
over allotment on an impressive 5/263.
Archer Watt top scored with 68 not out, Oscar Clark a stylish 54, and they got solid contributions from Geoff Stewart (28) and
Rod Johnson (28).
Mitchell Farley (2/44) and Lucas Shanahan (2/42) both impressed with the ball against good opposition.
In reply, the Blues were always in trouble but
never shirked the issue, knuckling down and working hard to bat out the overs, finishing on 9/96.
Chris Shanahan top scored with 17, with opener
Chris Davis getting all 11, facing 53 balls and proving hard to dismiss.
Orbost will host Bruthen this week at the Orbost Recreation Reserve.
The under 13s will resume on Friday, January 30 when they host West Bairnsdale at Orbost Community College.
The Bruthen/Orbost under 16s will host Meerlieu at the Bruthen Recreation Reserve on Saturday, January 31.
