Gippsland farmers are being encouraged to step back from day-to-day operations and focus on the long-term future of their businesses, with a complimentary two-day workshop to be held in Sale later this year.
The “Future-proof your family farm business” workshop will run on Wednesday, March 25, and Thursday, March 26, 2026, and is designed to help farming families develop practical, adaptive planning skills to manage climate risk, build resilience and strengthen business performance.
The workshop will be presented by Dr Kate Burke, an experienced agri-strategist and educator with a strong background across the technical, commercial and people-focused aspects of farming. Dr Burke will guide participants through key drivers of farm success, including managing climate variability and uncertainty, optimising productivity, improving financial performance, and addressing people, leadership and succession issues.
Participants will work through what matters most to them, gain a clearer understanding of the productivity, people and profit components of their business, identify strategies to balance growth and risk, and develop priorities and plans tailored to their own operations. Farmers who attend will also be eligible for a one-on-one business plan review with Dr Burke following the workshop.
Previous participants have praised the program for its holistic approach.
The workshop will be held at the Sale Greyhound Club, Sale Showgrounds, Maffra–Sale Road, with an 8.30am arrival for a 9am start, running until 3pm each day. Catering is provided, but numbers are limited and registration is essential.
