Wilderness Coast Artists has named its artist of the month, Yvonne Knight.
Yvonne’s earliest ambition was to be an artist, showing natural talent at a young age.
However, other interests such as competition swimming led her in another direction, becoming a nurse and having a long successful career.
Upon retirement in 2000, she returned to painting and developed a love for different approaches and mediums.
Yvonne is a founding member of the Wilderness Coast Artists. Among her influences are some of her inspirational tutors, Jan Long, Colin Johnson and Robert Wade.
Yvonne’s artwork is featured this month on the walls of the Wilderness Coast Artists Studio in Orbost.
The Wilderness Coast Artists paint together every Tuesday in the studio and welcome visitors.
Wilderness Coast Artists are partnering with Landcare Expo for the Orbost Show in March.
Planning is well underway for a large artwork depicting a Gippsland Water Dragon in the Landcare Expo tent at the show.
Members of the public will be invited to participate in painting pieces of the artwork that will on display as it comes to life.
Other exciting arts events are happening during March – the Wilderness Coast Artists will be setting up their interactive painting in the Foyer of the Forge Theatre in Bairnsdale.
Members of the public will be able to see the artwork to completion by participating in painting in that venue from March 16-20.
A series of Creative Summit on Tour events will also be held across East Gippsland Shire during March.
The Wilderness Coast Artists will host the Orbost Session in their studio on Tuesday, March 24.
At the end of March, the completed artwork will be on display at the Creative Summit where a short presentation will discuss the processes involved in making a collaborative artwork happen.
At the end of February, Wilderness Coast Artists will hold its first weekend workshop for the year, Watercolour with Qing Zhang, an exciting young artist who loves painting birds.
Wilderness Coast Artists are immersed in planning for these events as well as its members continuing to work on their own individual artworks and interests.
Many of its members are also preparing artworks to send over the mountain to the Bright Autumn Art Festival held in April/May each year.
It’s been a busy start to 2026.
