Orbost’s “B” grade side were mauled by unbeaten ladder leader Bruthen last Saturday at Orbost Recreation Reserve in round 12 of the Bairnsdale Cricket Association (BCA).
The Redbacks won the toss
and elected to bat, finishing their 40 over allotment on an impressive 3/267.
For the second consecutive week Joshua Weeks made a century, this time blasting
102 not out from just 54 balls, including 12 boundaries and three maximums.
He received good support from Rhys Kennedy (43),
Will Matthews (31) and Kaleb Hodson (69).
John Welsh impressed with the ball for Orbost taking 1/25.
In reply the Blues were bundled out for just 61 in the 21st over, the last four wickets falling for the addition of just two runs.
Jasmeet Singh was the only batsman to reach double figures, making 22 from just 10 deliveries, including five boundaries.
His dismissal opened the way for the final avalanche.
Cec Matthews was the star with the ball for Bruthen, taking 4/24.
The Bairnsdale Cricket Association will enjoy a weekend off for the Australia Day long weekend this week, with Orbost’s next match a home match on Saturday, January 31 against Buchan.
The Blues under 13s will resume on Friday, January 30 when they host West Bairnsdale at Orbost Community College.
The Bruthen/Orbost under 16s will host Meerlieu at the Bruthen Recreation Reserve on Saturday, January 31.
