A perennial pastures field day in early February will showcase the benefits and the what-not-to-dos at the Gippsland Agricultural Group’s research farm.
Producers are encouraged to attend, particularly if they have a sprayed paddock that’s waiting to be sown down, to discuss practical, paddock-based results from the Producer Demonstration Site that has been running demos for the past five years.
While anyone can grow grass when it rains, the trick is to learn how to manage your farm’s feedbase when it doesn’t.
The perennial pasture project is funded by Meat and Livestock Australia and run with GAgG members support and has shown several outcomes over the years.
The questions on the day will include: are perennial pastures worth the big upfront costs?
What does the pasture persistence look like against financial returns over five years?
How have some farmers doubled their stocking rates?
How do you establish perennial pastures in a variable climate?
For answers to these
questions and more,
head to the Gippsland Research Farm on Bengworden Road.
The Perennial Pastures Field Day will take place Thursday, February 12, from 10am to 4pm at the Gippsland Research Farm near the Bairnsdale Airport.
