The East Gippsland Shire Council has launched a community consultation process to guide the long-term future of the Mallacoota Foreshore Holiday Park, with a focus on environmental sustainability and improved visitor experiences.
As council prepares a new Master Plan for the site, it is calling on residents, business owners and regular visitors to provide early and essential input before a draft is finalised.
The proposed vision for the park is to create a vibrant, inclusive destination that balances strong financial performance with the protection of Mallacoota’s unique environmental and cultural values.
Key objectives include obtaining eco-certification, upgrading ageing infrastructure to improve accessibility and introducing low-impact accommodation options.
However, in a move likely to reassure locals concerned about over-development, council has set strict boundaries on what the Master Plan will not include.
Explicitly ruled out of scope are any plans to lease or sub-contract the park to private operators.
There will be no expansion of the park’s current boundaries, no permanent residential development, and no changes that would deter public access to the foreshore.
Council has also committed to protecting views of the water from neighbouring homes and businesses.
The consultation seeks to identify priorities for cultural connection, environmental initiatives and infrastructure renewal.
Council emphasised that local knowledge is critical to ensuring the plan reflects the town’s character rather than just a corporate vision.
Once the initial feedback is collated, a draft Master Plan will be released for further public comment at a later date.
Community members are invited to complete the survey and share their thoughts on the project’s direction.
Feedback is open now and will close at 12pm on Monday, March 16 2026.
