At the time of going to print, the bushfire burning near Lake Barracoota is now officially contained, with Forest Fire Management Victoria (FFMVic) confirming the containment status in an advice message covering Karbethong, Lake View, and Mallacoota.
While the immediate threat has passed, crews are continuing to “walk the perimeter” of the fire to identify and suppress remaining heat sources.
Authorities have advised that smoke may still be visible from nearby roads and communities.
Despite the fire being brought under control, significant closures remain in effect for parts of the Croajingolong National Park east of the Mallacoota Inlet.
FFMVic has temporarily closed several popular tracks and visitor areas to ensure public safety, including:
– Lakeview Track and Barracoota Link Track
– Howe Flat Track and walking track
– Cemetery Bight Day Visitor Area and jetty
– Spotted Dog Mine walking track
– Brokewells Hut jetty and Allans Head Day Visitor Area and jetty
– The Wilderness Coast Walk (east of Mallacoota)
Forest roads to the north of the bushfire also remain closed.
Authorities state there is currently no threat to communities, but residents and visitors are urged to keep monitoring conditions and reviewing their fire survival plans.
