Orbost’s Kira Lee Burn has been selected as part of the 2026 She Hoops – Leadership and Confidence Scholarship program.
She Hoops recently announced the successful recipients, marking the beginning of what is the most diverse and inclusive cohort in the program’s history.
With over 100 applications received from across Australia, the selection process was incredibly competitive.
This year’s cohort continues to include participants from regional and remote communities, reinforcing She Hoops’ commitment to creating equitable access to leadership development opportunities, regardless of postcode.
With FIBA Oceania’s support, the program is proud to welcome two participants from Oceania – the Solomon Islands and Samoa – further strengthening the diversity and reach of the program.
Designed for girls aged 15 to 18, the five-month scholarship offers a unique blend of basketball, mentorship and life skills development.
Through the holistic approach, participants not only excel on the court but also grow into confident leaders both in their personal lives and within their communities.
Participants will be upskilled and advance in their basketball journeys by receiving accreditations in coaching and officiating.
This exposure to diverse opportunities allows young women to explore their potential within the sport beyond playing.
A defining feature of the Leadership and Confidence Scholarship is the opportunity for participants to learn directly from an exceptional group of mentors, leaders who have excelled as athletes, professionals and role models.
Burn will mix with this year’s mentor group that includes Ally Wilson, Georgia Munro-Cook, Zitina Aokuso, Kristy Wallace, Abby Cubillo, and Cayla George.
Through honest conversations, shared experiences, and practical leadership guidance, mentors support participants to develop confidence, resilience and self-belief, while demonstrating what leadership looks like in action.
The Leadership and Confidence Scholarship includes structured online learning, mentoring and personal development sessions, culminating in an immersive camp at the Australian Institute of Sport.
A key component of the program is She Hoops’ ongoing partnership with EQ Minds, who deliver specialist education sessions focused on emotional intelligence, self-awareness and leadership under pressure.
