CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
The finals of the men’s and ladies club championship pairs were played last Thursday morning.
The competing pairs were evenly matched in their respective matches very close with the 15 ends games lasting nearly two-and-a-half hours.
In the ladies match, the score was tied at 11 all after 13 ends, with Sue Robinson and Dyce prevailing to with against Karen Chenney and Kellow.
While in the men’s finale, Peter Coulton and Geoffrey Robinson overcame Ron Hatcher and Perry.
The next club championship to be contested will be the men’s and ladies handicapped singles in mid-February, with entry forms available on the club notice board.
SOCIAL BOWLS
Thursday’s social bowls was a small affair, starting later than usual having followed on from the championship pairs.
The two games of eight ends were played in warm sunny weather with Rankin and Des Edwards being the winners for the afternoon.
Sunday saw a much larger group of bowlers, despite the chilly and very breezy weather, playing in earnest for prize money.
It was recently decided that a different tournament will be held on the first Sunday of every month with prize money being awarded to the winners.
Last Sunday, the competition was a game of single bowl fours which involved three games of 14 ends.
With each bowler in a team only having one bowl, the game was quite fast moving except for when bowlers decided to look for their other bowls.
The winning team for the day was Gwen Hatcher (skip), Jan Lynn, Vanessa Frank and Fitchner, who won $100, while the runners-up, Ron Hatcher (skip), Maurice Frank, Hawkey and Perry won $60.
Members are looking forward to finding out what the next competition will be on the Sunday March 1.
The next normal social bowls will be on Thursday and players are asked to be at the club no later than 12.30pm.
