Buchan outclassed Orbost in “B” grade in round 13 of the Bairnsdale Cricket Association (BCA) 2025/26 competition at the Orbost Recreation Reserve last Saturday.
The Cavemen batted first and made the use of belting wicket, amassing an impressive 9/233 from their
40 overs, with Logan Sykes top
scoring with 78.
Major wicket takers for Orbost were Jacob Farley (3/46), Asanka Pathirana (2/43) and Jordan Ross (2/39).
In reply the Blues were bowled
out for 104 in the 30th over, with veteran open Chris Davis top scoring with a defiant 35, Jordan Ross (17) was the only other batsmen to
reach double figures.
Young Noah Mathers was the
leading wicket taker for Buchan, picking up 3/27.
The Blues will host Meerlieu at the Orbost Recreation Reserve this Saturday in round 14.
Junior cricket resumed after
the Christmas holiday break, with
the under 13’s returning in sensational form.
Last Friday night at Orbost Secondary College, the Blues made 3/119 from their 20 overs, restricting West Bairnsdale to 4/66 in an outstanding all round performance.
Peter Davies (20), Emmett Clementine (12) and Angus Seal(10) led the batting, all retiring unbeaten, mixing defence and aggression.
Malcolm Morrison was the
pick of the bowlers, taking 2/2 from two overs.
Orbost will clash will Lakes Entrance Maroon this week in a local derby at St Brendans in
Lakes Entrance.
In the under 16’s Bruthen/Orbost were no match for Meerlieu at the Bruthen Recreation Reserve on Saturday morning.
The combine batted first and were dismissed for 71 in the 21st over, with Mitch Farley top scoring with a well compiled 26, with Lucas Shanahan the only other player to reach double figures contributing 13.
The Tussocks making the runs in just 16 overs for the loss of one wicket, which was taken by
Kailam Lang.
Bruthen/Orbost will get another chance to register its first win for the season, when it does battle with St Mary’s Nagle at Nagle College.
