The Gippsland Lakes region will welcome a major new event in 2026, with the inaugural Gippsland Lakes Boat Show set to be held in Paynesville from February 27 to March 1.
The event is expected to cement the historic boating town’s place on Victoria’s marine industry calendar, showcasing the Gippsland Lakes as one of Australia’s premier inland waterway systems.
Set against a backdrop of sweeping lakes, rivers and open waterways, the Gippsland Lakes Boat Show will bring the boating lifestyle to life in an authentic lakeside setting, combining on-water action with a relaxed festival atmosphere.
Boating Industry Association of Victoria chief executive officer Steve Walker said the event was about more than boats alone.
“This isn’t just a boat show — as part of the Paynesville Classic Boat Rally, it’s a celebration
of everything that makes the Gippsland
Lakes one of Australia’s premier boating destinations,” Mr Walker said.
“From koala-filled Raymond Island to waterfront restaurants, cruising adventures and fishing hot spots, visitors can experience great locations like Metung, Lakes Entrance and Lake Tyers. It’s the perfect excuse to turn a boat show visit into a long-weekend escape or a day-long visit.”
The boat show, held as part of the Paynesville Classic Boat Rally, will feature displays of
boats and marine accessories, traditional parades, heritage vessels, on-water demonstrations, sea trials, lifestyle exhibitors, family activities, live music and the vibrant atmosphere of a lakeside car show.
The 2026 event will also coincide with two of Paynesville’s most popular attractions — the Paynesville Classic Boat Rally and the Raymond Island Car and Bike Show — creating a festival-style weekend across the region.
Organisers say the event will appeal to a wide audience, from experienced boaters to families and visitors keen to explore the region’s relaxed waterways lifestyle.
Highlights will include on-water experiences showcasing the latest vessels, heritage boat displays celebrating maritime craftsmanship, lifestyle exhibits featuring marine technology and boating gear, family-friendly
entertainment and the popular car and
bike show on Raymond Island.
With world-class fishing, cruising
opportunities and natural beauty throughout
the Gippsland Lakes, visitors are encouraged to extend their stay and explore the region while attending the show.
