Orbost Arts Centre will open a new exhibition this week created by Deb Raymer-Hutter, Sharon Gray and Cherie Stuckings.
Their exhibition, Portraits, Wings & Blooms will kick off with an opening night on Friday, February 13 at 5.30pm.
The three Orbost artists met at a social art group at the Neighbourhood house and have become great friends.
They build each other up, bounce ideas around, notice things in each others’ work and share advice.
Sharon says that the beautiful gardens around Orbost are a great inspiration for her works which often focus on flowers, blossoms and nature.
Deb finds inspiration in the natural landscapes and the great diversity of wildlife and birds.
Cherie finds that the people she meets are a huge inspiration to her, and her style is heavily influenced by the iconic Frida Kahlo.
Other key figures the trio admire include the French Impressionists (Claude Monet especially), and Australian artist Clare Bremner.
They’ve taken a collaborative approach to the exhibition, working to build a cohesive and complimentary collection of art pieces.
Deb has been enjoying the challenge of considering the presentation and display of her art – the practical sides of putting together an art exhibition.
Cherie has been playing with mixed media, especially when she feels stuck on a piece, and finds that mixing up ink, pencil and paper brings new ideas to the surface.
Deb recently branched out to working with oil sticks and water-soluble oil paints.
Sharon has enjoyed using washes and glazes for their flexibility and the depth it brings to a piece.
Their exhibition is set to be a very bright, colourful and bold show with plenty of ‘wow’ moments.
Most of all, they hope that visitors will take their time to enjoy the experience.
