New South Wales angler, Mark Healey continued his affinity with Mallacoota on the weekend, winning his third Australian Bass Tournament bream event the venue.
Mark Healey finished with a 10 fish bag of 10.131 kilograms to top the boaters section, with Mario Vukic (9.707) and Jarrod Healey (9.372) rounding out the top three.
Recent Gippsland Lakes winner, Steven Pryke finished 19th.
Robert Bluemink was the winner in the non boater section, with his six fish weighing in at 4.997 kilograms, surpassing top three placegetters, Michael Sammutt (4.601) and Darcy Clifton (4.524).
It was Bluemink’s first victory in his second season of fishing the series.
Lindsy Pryke was the highest placed of the East Gippsland contingent finishing fifth, while youngster in his first event, Riley Wheelan finished in seventh.
Metung winner, Simon Krause put up another consistent effort, finishing fourth.
The biggest fish of the tournament was caught by Brad Hodges at 1.374 kilograms.
But the star of the show was Mark Healey, who led after day one from last year placegetters Steve Morgan and Vukic.
Mark Healey held his nerve on day two and revealing after the presentation that he adopted a different approach to other victories at Mallacoota.
“Last year I fished the front lake, this year I started at double creek, moved to the top lake and finished in the front lake,” Mark Healey said.
Healey reported that if you didn’t land the fish on the first bite, they were reluctant to return.
The next round of the series is in Tasmania on the Huon River on April 15-16.
